there's only on thing nicer than musical devices and that's fishing rods.
we have many fine anglers on this forum. there is also probably a smattering of shy, fish-curious types who need a manly arm to ease them into the fantastic, magical, exciting world of angling.
ask questions. tell us what you're doing. show us your flies, lures, rods, recipes etc. post updates about your latest outing. pics are always nice too.
by way of introduction, i used to be known as fishingrhod precisely because of my piscatorial fixation. i now live in the Middle Of Wales surrounded by rivers and lakes brimming with wild brown trout, sea trout, and grayling. there still are a few salmon hereabouts but they're pretty much an endangered species now.
i have to go fly fishing because it is the only sampling technique we have available for our Brown Trout DNA Project. as a result i am learning how to do it as i don't know the local waters very well, my casting is rusty as hell, and my fly tying ability is limited. basically having lots of fun and calling it research. other anglers are helping out on their waters but these are the lakes i'm working my way through. right on the top of the Cambrian Mountains, i present to you the Teifi Pools.

3this is no place for fun. this is a place for adults to talk about serious things of great importance. now get your waders on, grab a rod, and get some flies wet.A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Sun Apr 24, 2022 2:38 pm Guess this makes you...fishing Rhod.

4I’m no expert, but shouldn’t the topic be “fishing line”? I don’t think thread is used except in emergencies.A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Sun Apr 24, 2022 2:38 pm Guess this makes you...fishing Rhod.

Re: Fishing Thread
7I love fishing. Mostly sea fishing with lures, but I’ve chucked a fly or two in my time too. Going on a trip with some pals in a few weeks time, not primarily a fishing trip but fishing will certainly be done. There’s a mark at the northwest end of Gigha that I’ve wanted to try for years, hoping to bag a pollock or two. Also hoping to get some bass from the beach in front of the caravan. I know they’re there, the water temp is edging ever closer to the magic 10c required. I’ll be taking 3 rods, 3 reels and a fuckload of lures. Cannot wait!

8How do we upload photos to forum 2.0? Tried to share a couple of pics from recent outings, but the files are always too big.

10i had no idea that you're an angler. i thought i was the only one left in this strange, music-obsessed forum. nice to see Dave here too and looking forward to seeing his pics.Nico Adie wrote: Sun May 22, 2022 3:00 pm I love fishing. good luck on your trip. i'd never heard of the place until now but it looks marvellous. i wouldn't be too worried about the 10c thing. i think that's derived from growing experiments and aquaculture where there is no net gain in weight below that temperature. however, they still have to eat even if less avidly than during the warmer months. anglers who've ignored that rule have managed to catch all year round, albeit the numbers are lower. smaller lures fished slow near the bottom or, paradoxically, surface baits.
i'll be doing a bit of lure angling again in a couple of weeks time. back down to Pembrokeshire and a two minute drive from a cracking beach with good rough ground on one side. been meaning to try it for years. i hope the bass gods think my efforts are worthy of reward.
tight lines!
