Garth wrote: Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:22 am Does anyone have any experience selling gear at a swap meet? I have a mountain of gear, mostly PA, and much of it is too bulky/low-dough to deal with shipping. There's one coming up fast here locally and deadline for table reservation is today.

$95 table seems like a lot but honestly more worried about losing an entire day as well as the time/trips needed to load all of it up and lump it in/out of a large convention center...and then lump it all back home because it didn't sell.
Never done it at a swap meet, but our local Fbook gear sale/swap group has done some in person events pre-pandemic, usually at a local club. I never sold stuff, but would go to buy stuff, and in general it seemed like the smaller mid-price things always went way quicker (pedals, small combos, synths) than old PA equipment.

Is it worth looking into whether there's some sort of non-profit or charity that you can donate stuff to and get the tax write-off?
I know that Nuci's Space takes in a lot of PA gear and we give out receipts for you to take to the tax man. I think the sort of people looking for PA stuff at the swap meet will likely be Praise and Worship Leaders, and if you've ever waited tables on a Sunday, you know how the jesus people are with money.

Sorry it's a musican's swap meet.

I decided to bail on the idea. I called the promoter and he actually talked me out of it in that PA stuff does not move and that's the bulk of what I'm trying to thin down.

I couldn't figure out why he'd talk me out of it though. Maybe they take a percent of your sales? but I did not see it listed anywhere on their site.

Maybe he's just a nice guy and doesn't want to see another dude drag his pile of big crappy PA stuff to have it sit unsold.

Or maybe he has his own table loaded with PA shit he's trying to move :)

I inherited some musical equipment (primarily amplifiers and synths) from my dad, of varying quality and working order, that's just sitting in my basement unused. My wife is more or less begging me to offload some of it.

Is this the right thread to post that kind of stuff?

I will emphasize: I have no idea what I am doing.
If you're looking to sell it, then absolutely! If people have questions, well...that's what DMs are for!
Thanks. :-) I shall prepare a post with photos & descriptions.
Ok, I'm finally getting around to this.

Synopsis: my Dad was a middle school music teacher in St. Charles, IL for forty-some years and also had his own rock & roll cover band for almost that long in which he played keyboards, guitar, and sang. I inherited all of his musical equipment after he passed away last year; I'm keeping a lot of it, but there's some stuff that I have no use for and/or is not 100% in working order. I've inspected and plugged everything in to check their condition; below, I have included photos (which were taken in haste) and my notes for each piece of equipment.

I've done some research and know that some of this stuff may be worth something to somebody, but at this point I'm not going to put prices on stuff; my main interest is to try to find a home for these pieces of equipment and not have them rot further in my basement. If I do happen to get any money for anything, it's either going to go into the music scholarship fund set up in my Dad's name, or in the college fund for my daughters.

It'd be easiest if I could find someone who would be willing to take most or all of this stuff and lives in the Chicago area, in which case I'd be happy to offload this stuff myself and use this as an opportunity to meet an FM or two, but if there are folks outside of the Chicago area who are willing to work with me, I'm happy to hear from you, too.

Here I go:

Item #1:

Acoustic 134 amp, 4x10" speakers. Had been used for guitar or bass.

Both channels are in partial working order but crackle when turned up loud. Not sure if things just need to be cleaned out or if there are more substantial problems with the electronics. Reverb and tremolo functions work. If this was in full working order, I'd probably keep it, but I have another amp that serves the same purpose.

Item #2:

Fender Mustang 1, 70 W guitar amp, 1x8" speaker.

Sounds like it is in full working order; however, electrical plug is missing its ground pin (my Dad lived in an old home with outdated electrical outlets and would often yank the third pin out on newer electrical equipment..).

Item #3:

Peavey Bandit 65 guitar amp, 65 W, 1x12" speaker.

Sounds like it is in full working order, but the footswitch it came with has apparently been misplaced.

I appear to not be able to attach more photos to this post (could be user error?), so I will continue on in the next post...

Item #4:

Shure Vocal Master PA with two 3x10" speaker columns.

Not completely working. When I tested it, Channels 1-3 appeared okay; channels 4-6 not so much. Also, reverb function appears to be shot.

Item #5:

Dynacord Eminent tube... thingy (German?) with a 2x12" cab that looks like it has been through a war

The only good thing I can say about this thing is that it makes noise if you plug something into it. After it has been turned on for a while, it smells like burnt hair. Possible fire hazard.

Item #6:

Sears-Roebuck Rhythm-matic Drum Machine

Wonky, but it actually works.

Item #7:

Arp Axxe Model 2310

So, it's kind of difficult for me to tell how well this thing actually works because I don't know how to use an old-school analog synth. If I were to hazard a guess, I think it probably needs work.

Item #8:

Cordovox Freeman String Symphonizer

This keyboard actually seems to work sound-wise, but keys are sticky and it smells like it's been kept in a garage for three decades (because it was).

Anyway, apologies for polluting this fine forum with my Dad's junk. If anyone is interested in this stuff, or has any advice for me on what to do with these pieces of equipment besides throwing them out or letting them continue to collect dust in my basement, please let me know.
