That first one looks like the cute, funny robot who you learn has a soul at the end of the 1980s comedy.
I don’t mind the second one, to be honest. It looks like a sculpture.
Re: What's now in your hi-fi?
182the first one is a "no baffle" speaker. There have been other designs like this. the idea is there is no box, and no baffle that the speakers are mounted in, so the sound can radiate in a more natural way for better imaging, phase coherence, etc.
the second one is a horn midrange with a ribbon tweeter tacked on the side, and a small woofer on the other side. totally freaky, but again, there are dozens of variations on the horn loaded drivers - they are usually very efficient and some people love them.
both of these were shown at Axpona. I love audio shows.

183Huh. No idea if I saw the Malbork speakers or not, though I definitely saw speakers that could’ve been those ones. I definitely didn’t see the second ones!
Re: What's now in your hi-fi?
184Would not.

185My favorite thing from the AXPONA coverage was this $85,000 pair of speakers which resemble old school Dr. Who props (I'm sure they sound great, but....)

186My Dad gave me his turntable, it's a JVC L-A21. It needs a new stylus. Is there one you all would recommend for an older model like this? Wanting to spend $100 or less.
Also, is there a trusted online place (besides Amazon) where you can go to buy replacement parts like these?

187Less than $100.. for a cartridge + stylus, or just a stylus for the (unspecified) cartridge that you currently have?zircona1 wrote: Tue May 10, 2022 2:31 pm My Dad gave me his turntable, it's a JVC L-A21. At the sub-$100 price point, I feel that Audio-Technica makes a solid cartridge. This one here: https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/ca ... t/at-vm95e
Aside from Amazon, I've had good experience with Turntable Lab: https://www.turntablelab.com/
There are folks on here way more knowledgeable on this topic than me, so definitely listen to their suggestions.

They have a cartridge that is recommended as a direct replacement for your JVC, looks like an OEM AT-91. Only $43!

189You'll likely be wanting a nice Audio Technica cartridge at that price. For the money they are the best sounding and best tracking budget cartridges. If the table is belt drive (which I believe it is) and it has not been used for a while, you might want to replace the belt.
