Jorja Smith - On Your Own

This song sounds like late summer-early autumn, when days are getting shorter and it's getting chilly. Across the setting sun, orange glow on grey clouds, watching birds fly over the highrise apartment buildings. Things hoped for, which did not come to pass. Yearning for something better, something other than this. But accepting.

I am in the audience for this (yay me). I will never forget it. I was so excited to see Richard after what felt like years of waiting and hoping. That moment when you are seeing the person that is currently your favourite artist right a the peak of them being your favourite artist.

I can't adequately describe that venue or do it justice. It's an old gymnasium in a heritage listed mission for sailors from over 150 years ago. It's called the Norla Dome. It's really incredible.

Initially, i was so bummed to see that he didn't bring his guitar. "You've got to be fucking kidding me." Then he started stomping his feet in this beautiful fucking dome that is over 150 years old and did the whole set a cappella with no microphone. Passing around pistachio nuts throughout the audience between songs he insisted we take because he was given too many. At some stage he ate an apple. I want to say it was during the set, but it may have been just before while we wondered what was going on.

It was so special.
