Re: Songs that Make You Cry
35I was driving around with the radio on the last day of 1999. I'm still a young guy, feeling fine, and my life was still pretty OK at that point. 'Our Town' by Iris DeMent comes on, which I'd never heard before. I had to pull over till I could get my shit together again. I'm a hold it together guy and hadn't really cried since I was a child. The feeling was so strong but hard to pin down, like I was mourning things that hadn't happened yet. Anyway a few days shy of twenty years later I was alone in a place I never thought I'd leave, and I thought of this song and how time had caught up to it.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high
Shake your fists at the gates, saying
"I have come home now
Fetch me the Spirit, the Son, and the Father
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended
It's time now, my time now
Give me my, give me my wings"
Give me my
Give me my
Give me my
Give me my
Give me my
Give me my wings
If they say
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do

Probably have listened to it more than any other song. No idea what it's about. Part of the magic.
Fleetwood Mac - Beautiful Child
A few Souled American songs.

Beautiful. I'm so glad you found each other.losthighway wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 7:54 amWhoa, dudes. Didn't expect to find you here! Let's enjoy this moment before everyone inevitably starts laughing at Pearl Jam.jason from volo wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 7:47 amThe relatively non-sensical (lyric-wise) "Yellow Ledbetter" has gotten me pretty close to shedding a tear. Fairly simple, yet powerful, tune.Vibracobra wrote: Wed Dec 22, 2021 3:51 am Grew up with the Seattle stuff and although I never listen tho those bands anymore, I must say that three Pearl Jam tracks still get me; Daughter, release and Rearviewmirror. Three very simple songs from the songwrting point of view, but that Vedder fluke really nails it there.
