Yes, you could put one (or both) in that Music Man. The stock speakers on the HD-130 are also 8 ohm. I cannot vouch for how good they will sound, but they will work and should be able to handle the power ok. Just take a photo of how it is currently wired up and then mime that. Pay close attention to what's on the positive/negative terminals - phone photos are great for this.

The actual change-out itself should be super easy assuming that everything is still stock or mostly stock and hasn't been changed out (which is a real possibility on a 40+ year old amp). All you should need is a standard #2 phillips screwdriver. And assuming they still have the spade connectors with the speaker wire, they should just wiggle off the old speakers and wiggle onto the new one - be careful and patient w/ this step as you could damage the tabs or the connectors and that can be a headache to deal w/.

You'll have 4 unused holes w/ that replacement speaker I believe. Shouldn't be a big deal, just make sure the tension is relatively even across all four screws, you don't want to bend or warp it by overtightening it.

The only other thing to be careful about is that you want to be careful driving the speaker screws back in because if the screwdriver head slips off it can go right through the speaker cone. This is less likely to happen coming from the back like you will be doing on this amp...but if you're clumsy like I am, you'll find a way.

..and possibly (often in my experience) a soldering iron, which I trust more than those wiggly connectors anyway. Which is also pretty easy to do with a good 'ol $20 Weller.
Seems like a poll in the making: "Speaker connections: Solder or Spade?" I go back and forth on them (and not just to take them off hey-o)

I've never taken my speakers out and hopefully never will so I don't actually know if they're wood screws or threaded bolts/machine screws into T-nuts. I do know there's a phillips head on them though. Ah fuck I may as well take one out. BRB.

Yeah confirmed they're actual bolts - which actually brings up another caution point: when driving them back in, you also don't want to put too much force behind it as you can pop out the T-nut on the front face and that could be a headache to re-seat. Ask me how I know.

Yep. Those are designed to be very neutral. Will sound fine.

Changing speakers is pretty easy. A couple of things to note:
1) If it uses quick disconnects be gentle when pulling those off. Wiggle from the sides of connector. Do not pull from the wire or from where the wire meets the connector.
2) If the baffle has bolts sticking out, make sure you don't poke holes in the surround or cone when you are lowering the speaker onto the bolts. If the baffle has T-nuts in it this will not be an issue.
3) When screwing the 4 or 8 mounting screws on the new speaker do them all finger tight. Then snug them up with a tool a little past finger tight. Don't go nuts. Bending the frame over tightening them can warp the voice coil.

We had a number of those kicking around the office and... they sound surprisingly good. They were designed before my time there, but I've heard them sound good in a number of settings.

Now, having said that, in my younger days I probably threw away a lot of good speakers that could have been reconed. My only excuse is that the only people I could find that would recone a speaker for me were asking double the price of a used replacement speaker. I never got good at the knife and glue type repairs.

oh man, I know this all too well. Very frustrating

Thanks for the advice guys, I swapped one of the speakers out with the Line 6 one over the weekend. It was fairly easy, but when I plugged in the amp and strummed my guitar, I was only getting a brief, echo-y sound. So, it's back to the repair guy again....
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."
