For a dude who grilled at the first 3-5ish PRF events I have never owned a nice grill, I always have a handy Weber around and a mini-weber for when I need a quick dog or burger but I realized I have never bought a propane grill. My regular propane grill was left to us by the people who used to own our house and it was on its last legs 7 years ago when we shacked up. I finally decided it was a death trap or 4th degree burn waiting to happen and threw it out. So Yall of the PRF, I need a new propane grill. I can spend some $ but this is a grill that basically I am going to be using for family and some friends, I don't need a lot. I guess I could go up into the $500 range. I want something nice, that will last, but I don't need bells or anything. What do you got PRF?

We had a Weber thing that ran off natural gas (basically same as the propane models at our last place) but it rusted up pretty bad - I wasn't great about covering it at night so it's maybe on me.

We got a charcoal one after we moved, and I much prefer it. It takes a little bit to get the coals started (but super easy with a chimney starter) but other than adding a little prep time, and not necessarily being able to cook forever at an even temp, I don't really have any complaints.

Something like this

I have a Weber Spirit E-310 3-burner grill and it's excellent. Gets good and hot, you can smoke on it (since it has minimal air escape), and it's built very well. It's also very easy to clean. They're around $500.

Have to admit at one point to just walking into a Lowe's store about 10 years ago and then picking a grill out mostly at random, mainly because it looked nice. I still have it, and other than replacing the grates once and generally just keeping it clean, haven't done much else to maintain it. I've been happy with it.

Lowe's doesn't carry the exact model that I have any more, but the one below is similar, though mine was in stainless steel.

Yeah, grills like this also hold up pretty well, provided they have decent access to aftermarket parts so you can replace the grates or ignitor if they go bad. If you take decent care of it (keep covered, clean regularly, etc.) a $200 will work quite nicely. I just went with the Weber because I love them, knew I'd have it for at least a decade, and wanted their excellent access to parts, adders, and the like.

Co-sign on this. We have basically the same one, and I am going on year 5 with it. The igniter died the first week, but besides that, I have had no problems. I bought a cover for it which is worth it if you want it to last longer. I grill all summer long so it gets lots of use, I do go out of my way to clean it and store it in the garage during the winter.

Apparently the key is to keep it covered and blow the spiders out of the gas system when you first use it each year. I’m a charcoal guy myself, and would only want a gas grill if it had the charcoal-style ceramic briquettes instead of the V-shaped sheet metal pieces. Those grills are all over a grand now.

I use the grill like once a year. Mrs. Wiesner, on the other hand, uses it probably 3 times a week. We had a series of crappy free propane grills for the past decade or so and at the beginning of last summer bought a new Weber Spirit 310 with a cover. Literally every time she grills, she mentions how much she loves it.
