Yeah, if you're cool with the price, it's a great grab and go pedal. Cool folks at Strymon. Amp modeling at the most modern level, and a bit of room ambience, and available today, AFAIK.

If you're concerned about price, I still like the SansAmp stuff (though no headphone jack). Classic, GT2, etc.

POD 2.0s can be had for less than $100 used and have no menus or anything. they are a bit bulky and require a specific power supply.

Feel free to ignore this. The HX Stomp is a bit menu-y, but it can also act as a USB audio interface. A super-small recording rig can be based around the Stomp.. I've done it. But yeah, probably a bit more setup time. I'm biased, but I want to present the option. Like I said, feel free to ignore.

Best wishes!

I have the stomp at work, I love it! My spouse will hate it, haha. the menus aren't bad at all, afai-concerned, but yeah, non gear-techy people I've seen have issues.
The price of the strymon is the only reason I even ask if I'm missing something else. They do seem like cool folks, have talked to them a few times at namm.
Thanks for the advice!

One more thing at the risk of being indelicate. If you're buying the strymon for just use in-hospital, then you can sell it when not in-hospital. They sell for $300-$350 used, which is nuts! Suddenly a $400 pedal turns into a $75 rental for however long you want to keep it.

A very nice $0.00 option ITB:

For hardware/pedal maybe look at the DSM/humboldt simplifier?
Original ones seem to be popping up everywhere cheap now that the fancy one is out.

Yeah VST is not what wanting to do at all at all, but thanks for those suggestions for non-hospital fun for me,

ah! DSM thing, very cool thanks!

Simplifier looks cool, but would need an interface to record which would be a deal breaker

If they are your thing and you don't mind "Medium...' pricey?

These things even got it done for a slide guitar sound. That's usually where I'm sold.

I thought about picking up a Mooer Radar because they are dirt cheep and you can load your own IR on them. I'm not really that into The IR thing so I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something, just play around. People say good things about the Radar for the price.
