My older guitarist friend who doesn't like learning new technology surprised me when I showed him this sale by saying he's going to get a couple of the new ones instead. I guess he looked at his pile of 4 old-style DL4s with busted switches and decided to get with the times.
I would appreciate it if you don't go quoting me or cutting and pasting this anywhere on the internet, please.
Oh absolutely not. I always appreciate your inside insights and wouldn't want to jeopardize you in any way for your generosity.

I've kind of wanted one of those forever. Seems like maybe a good time to get one.
Yeah, same. I guess I need 3 delays, minimum. Who knew?

If anyone within a few hours of Chicago/Milwaukee needs a full drum kit that'll rival some of the best kits ever made, this is a hell of a deal: https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/msg/d/ ... 25038.html

They probably meant to say 3 ply maple/poplar/maple shells w/ reinforcement rings (like how most classic Slingerlands/Ludwigs are built) not "6 ply shells"

(the related Paiste listing is technically a good deal but most here don't want 3 crashes and they refuse to break it up)

FINE.

I emailed the dude, if he has em, I am going to go get them. That's a hell of a deal.

*EDIT*

Hell yeah, going to go get them next week.

(just saw your edit) Excellent!!

Even though custom/non major brand drums can be hard to gauge used price-wise, there's no way that kit (not even factoring in the stands) cost less than $1,400 new.
The dude is cool as hell, he an older guy and we were talking on the phone so he knew I wasn't some lunatic from Chicago coming to murder him. He actually was sponsored by Chicago Drum Co, he has been playing rock n roll for 50 years.

The shells were priced at 2k new. Yeah, I am not going to gauge what the resale value is for a custom drum kit, but shells, extra heads, bass pedal, double bass pedal, snare stand, hi-hat stand, 4 cymbal stands and a throne...yeah that seems worth over $500 to me.

Oh wow, didn't realize he was throwing in all that too. Maybe a slight bummer if the dude just couldn't find a band to rock with, but.. congrats!

I was curious about these drums. Last picture shows the inside of the toms. I don't see any rerings and the plies look thick, like 6 ply. Hard to tell for sure. Luddies and Slingerlands went to six ply around 1976, so maybe they meant that?
Yeah.. I went to the Chicago Drum Co site and it too said 6-ply, but every shell on their site shows 'solid maple' re-rings so I'm not totally sure. There are slight tonal and projection differences between the two but either way you can't really go wrong with maple.
