Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere

Hey keys weirdos... Ive seen these giant Wurlitzer student lab pianos that have like 6 or 8 pianos that all fold up on a single rolling rack. They look like a bunch of 200a Vultron'd together. I cannot find a single picture of proof that they ever existed and a dude is telling me I'm crazy. Am I crazy?
Was Japmn.

FM Kniferide you are not crazy, I was a part owner of one of those things. 6 of us went in on it, we bought it off a guy in Chicago, my friends picked it up on tour, it lived at my old loft for years.

We had big plans. We were going to going to form a 6 man band to play this thing. We were going to be called The Bukkakeys. Greatness beckoned. Alas, like so many highdeas it never came to fruition.

It sounded terrible and ended up in the dumpster.

It comes from a Pacific Engineering TX990 phono preamp. A friend has one and is asking how to connect to it. I told him to look for a 6 pin Molex connector, which he did, but apparently that didnt fit. Sounds like its coming over to my bench to solve the problem. Any ideas?
What in the ?!

Crimp 1-pin male connectors onto each wire individually to mate with it, and color-code it somehow? (probably not optimal)

I don't know; that was my first thought since it's "phono" and that's more or less how you have to connect the wires from a turntable tonearm to a cartridge...

Gotta be a Molex. A search of Molex 6 pin male connector showed a few variations. There's a version, probably older, with an open "box" and exposed barrel pins. I think it's this. Most of the results show a different version where there is no open box and each pin is enclosed in a plastic sheath, meant to fit just so into the female counterpart. And even different sheath shape configurations within this. You could probably take one of these, break (or trim) the sheathes off, and make it work. Or you could try searching for the specific kind with the exposed pins, but as you know lots of these parts places don't have actual photographs of each individual part, especially when there are subtle variations on it.

Are you sure that's not the connector there, already plugged in? The tab kinda looks like it releases it from the chassis (or from whatever is inside the chassis).

It looks very similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164086512796

That's possible but not probable. The pic I posted isnt the specific unit in question, its just from online. The pic i saw of the actual unit my friend has looked the same, though (it was on an Instagram story and is now gone). It seems odd that two pics of different units would have the same connector already plugged in. However its entirely possible that the unit I found pics of online is the same one my friends has. I dunno....he's dropping it with me today supposedly so i'll get down to it soon. Just was curious if it was something common that I didnt know about.
