A friend came across this yammy jammer and dropped it off for me to check out. It's a m916 but looks and feels close to identical to every pm1000 I've seen. Anyone know if these pres and eq are close to the 1000? Peeps seem to really like those. He said he'd be interested in selling and I'm not sure I want to take on another mixer project. It has 2 xlr per ch and a selected switch... super cool.

EDIT: It does seem to be the transformerized in and output of the PM1000 or close. The EQ is cool too. The master section is totally fucked. Every output card was disconnected and when connected caused serious buzzing out of every hole. the inter patch works fine, sou you could use it as a front end for a DAW. If It was mine, I'd gut it for preamps, maybe a few eq. I'll see what he wants to do with it.

Never used one but people seem to really like the Lewett 441 and you can buy a pair for a grand. I like AT mics so maybe a 4747 for something. Shure KSM 44 sound great to me. I like them better than a 414. You can also get a used 414 for around a grand probably which are kinda the multi pattern mic you see all over. They are fantastic but sound a little neutral to me. not that fun but predictable.

They have some pretty significant differences. The blonde bassman has the presence knob. That is controling the amount of treble in the negative feedback loop of the power amp, much like a tweed bassman or marshall circuit. The black panel bassman just has a fixed negative feedback loop. There's nothing wrong with that, it just a different methodology of adjustig treble on an amp (in the power amp vs in the preamp).

The Blond Bassman has a tapped treble control, providing a different sort of interaction between the treble and bass knobs. The black panel had the WAY more common fender tone control network, which can be founs in pretty much every black and silver panel amp.

The power amps are a bit different as well. The Blonde uses a 7025/12AX7. The Black uses a 12AT7... lower gain. The Black panel has blocking resistors in front of the power tubes, the Blonde does not. This is a little thing, but is prevents a bit of distortion on the power tubes.

The Blonde technically uses 5881 tubes. The Black uses 6L6GC. Nowadays, this is used kind of interchangeably. However, they're not identical. Here's a good mini-article.

Also, tone snobs SWEAR the 60s 5881s sound different (usually better) than 6L6s. Basically, the rarer item always sounds better to these types of people.

But... IN SHORT.. this of the Blonde as like 80% black panel bassman and 20% tweed bassman.
