I can't speak to the circuits, but they sound different. The 6G6-B is the one I regret selling. The blonde has a bit more mids and rocks a little more above 5. I hated the black Bright switch but found the Presence on the blonde pretty useful. For comparison, I dial the treble and presence knobs on my 2204 to ZERO (but I still have the bright cap in place and use single coils).

Is it night and day? No, same ball park. But you'd hear a difference side by side for sure.

The bass channel on both is practically unusable.

I like the B-ULS run the best but that is just me.
Agreed. Never forgave them for switching to that terrible soft button system that returns to a default setting if it looses phantom power. Also... 5 patterns? It's a "4"14, not a "5"14, Get a job AKG!

the rocks a bit more almost certainly the 7025 in the PI vs. the 12at7 which is an easy way to get back there if you end up having a black one again

I have a bonehead question about pairing power amps with multiple speakers.

First a little background:
The practice room/clubhouse accumulated several pairs of old stereo hi-fi speakers, a few unused 4x10 bass guitar cabs, and a couple low-grade PA power amps.
I had an an unused receiver with a bad power section and pre-amp outs, and a 4-way speaker selector with impedance matching.
I hooked it all up (it was all just sitting there anyway) as a fun experiment and a tribute to DJ/dub sound systems.
Not for critical listening, but for partying and blasting beloved records much louder than would be permissible at home.

I used a pair of in-line low-pass filters to feed one of the power amps, so that subwoofer amp drives the two bass cabs.
The other power amp feeds the 4-way speaker selector which is connected to 3 pairs of hi-fi stereo speakers and a tiny set of cheapo tweeters.
The power amp driving the mids & tweeters is (I think) a super basic Crown "practice room PA amp" and is maybe 200 watts.

The silly system is capable of sounding pretty great at times and is lots of fun for the above stated purposes.

Anyway, I got a line on a used Samson s700 power amp (350w) and I'm wondering if more power would allow louder/clearer tunes or if it would just blow speakers.
Sometimes it feels like more headroom would come in handy, but the speakers are not rugged "DJ" speaker cabs.
I'm also not sure how the 4-way speaker selector effects the whole equation. I think its main function is to protect the amp.

I've considered getting an adjustable crossover (instead of the fixed 20hz or 30hz filters I have in there now) plus some cool old "horn" tweeters which I think would be louder (?) than these large-coin-sized tweeters I have up now. Maybe I should forget about the stronger amp and focus on those aspects instead.
