Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps. I got them on a two-pack here for the Switch but they haven't grabbed me in the same way as Hollow Knight. Quite something to look at though.
One of the programmers came to work for us and he was great, unfortunately Jeff Bezos recently made him an offer we couldn't match...

222IMMORTALITY.
Could have done with more polish, but a fun interactive exercise, and cleverly put-together. I imagine a million lousy subreddit threads spawning from it.

223Back on Hollow Knight after a 2 year break. It would be more fun if it was less hard, but not to the extreme degree I had thought. Here's the thing.
The last time around, I could barely play it at all until I started plugging in my wired Switch Pro controller instead of using it wireless. This time, I'm using a wired-only licensed controller, and there's way less lag than the Pro over USB. What the fuck! The Switch Pro controller is probably the most ergonomic controller made, with the best feeling buttons and sticks, but the lag is ridiculous even when wired. What a pointless purchase.

224Popping in to share that I am balls-deep in a re-play of Breath of the Wild, and having a blast going through everything again. I have already run into a few shrines that I missed the first time, and am going to take some more time exploring the side quests and shrines this time.
I started the re-play because I got tired of Cuphead. Fuckin' Cuphead. Jesus H Christmas, Cuphead.

225My 8 year old has cleared BOTW multiple times. I got her the DLC and she plays in Master Mode now. It's turned her into a Zelda superfan. I had to help out with a few bits the first time around like the Yiga temple with all the bananas, and some of the puzzle shrines. But not any more.
Suits me, she can finish all these games I never got around to. She's cleared Skyward Sword twice now as well (after finding it unplayable at first, until I turned off the motion controls). And blasted through Link's Awakening. Got stuck early on in Wind Waker I think. Hasn't gone back to Twilight Princess either. I thought she might go for A Link To The Past but it bothered her that Link had pink hair. I'm curious to see what she would make of Majora's Mask.
She's also bought an octo and a korok as plushies, quite large ones.

226Radiant Silvergun: I’ve no aptitude for bullet-hell shooters, but the game and the developer’s reputation compel me. I’m having fun not getting terribly far.
As posted earlier in this thread, Treasure’s later Bangai-O Spirits has become one of my favourite games, one for which I bought a second-hand 2DS, which the game gleefully brings to a stuttering halt on certain, overwhelming levels. I see some similarities in Radiant Silvergun in the escalating rewards for being more daring and discriminate in what you zap and when, and the barely-intelligible translated enthusiasm of the instructions: “be attitude for gains”.

227Radiant Silvergun rules. I got it on the Saturn many years ago when it was only just starting to get expensive. I like it much more than Ikaruga. It's so epic. The music is awesome too.
I guess you will have checked out the original Bangai-O by now?

Re: What Video Games Are You Playing?
228I have not played the original Bangai-O - apart from the Switch, 2DS, and PS5, I have a Mac laptop - I might be able to find it through some venture through the emulator and rom worlds, but my backlog of books, games and videos probably already exceeds my lifespan! If it ever comes out on a medium I own, I’ll grab it though.
Will try to steal some time on RS tonight. Schmups may be a good game type for the time poor - quick bursts before bedtime! I really like what I’ve seen of the puzzle elements of the game.

229I lied, my next quest was to beat Hollow Knight in under 5 hours, which I did today.Adam P wrote: Tue Aug 23, 2022 2:34 pm My suggestion is to start the game over. Sounds crazy, but with a lot of play time invested you pretty much only have really challenging stuff ahead. Whereas if you start over, there’s far less exploration needed and much of what was initially frustrating on the first playthrough comes much more easily. I really feel like half the challenge of Hollow Knight is beating yourself up over the extreme difficulty of some of the early challenges and the mental snowball effect.
Alternatively, practice beating the shit out of various bosses in the Hall of Gods.
My next quest is to find something that falls somewhere between Metroid Dread and Hollow Knight on the difficulty scale and that engages me as much as both of those games do.
