Have landed a swanky academic job. “Senior lecturer in epistemics”. Similar to associate professor in American English. Was on a one year contract for the same job but now permanent. In computer science and engineering. The interview and selection process was hard going. Five months in total.
I left my cushy academic life of ten years in Europe to come back to Sydney in late 2013 to look after my mother as she died very slowly of cancer over a period of three years. I was washing dishes in cafes and sleeping in my friend’s office for a year there. I had to start my career again from close-to-scratch after a big gap. Finally, this last Monday, after nine years of semester by semester contracts and fixed term contracts,, I am at a new university and back on the grid.
I could not be fucking happier.
So many people have helped that I don’t know where to start. Most immediately, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone here. All of you. This place has been one of the most wonderful, constant, funny, supportive, and down right great parts of my life since early 2014. This place has kept me going.
All my hugs are belong to you
