^ I mean one group is trying to assure that everyone has access to healthcare and clean energy, but the other wants to create an authoritarian theocracy.
Crazies all around.
Re: Politics
272Some interrelated, overlapping factors at hand, but something that could be said is that an increasing number of right wingers don't seem to believe in the rule of law anymore, in so far as upholding it might adversely affect them, their causes, favored candidates, and so on.
Re: Politics
273Disturbing domations.
Inside The Right’s Historic Billion-Dollar Dark Money TransferAn elderly, ultra-secretive Chicago businessman has given the largest known donation to a political advocacy group in U.S. history — worth $1.6 billion — and the recipient is one of the prime architects of conservatives’ efforts to reshape the American judicial system, including the Supreme Court.

277This might be a little callous and is definitely a simplification, but isn't immigration one tool to combat inflation?

Re: Politics
279If I had to take a guess it goes something like this: current inflation is, in part, being driven by a ruling class that is extremely afraid of the rising power of labor--people are tired of working shitty jobs for shitty pay, and refusing to do it--so the cynical, capitalist, solution could be to fill the positions no one wants because of shitty pay, with immigrants/migrants who will.brephophagist wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 8:19 pmI don’t understand the mechanics of the connection between the two; I think you might have to break that one down a bit.losthighway wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 8:13 pm This might be a little callous and is definitely a simplification, but isn't immigration one tool to combat inflation?

Re: Politics
280I have for a long time been of the belief that in America anyway, capital needs immigrants, needs people for whom the "American Dream" is still alive. If that is true, then closing the borders might be the quickest way to bring about significant change. The caveat of course being that in such a scenario the pendulum could just as easily move to the right as the left, more likely to the right even.Hairy Caul wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 9:52 pmIf I had to take a guess it goes something like this: current inflation is, in part, being driven by a ruling class that is extremely afraid of the rising power of labor--people are tired of working shitty jobs for shitty pay, and refusing to do it--so the cynical, capitalist, solution could be to fill the positions no one wants because of shitty pay, with immigrants/migrants who will.brephophagist wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 8:19 pmI don’t understand the mechanics of the connection between the two; I think you might have to break that one down a bit.losthighway wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 8:13 pm This might be a little callous and is definitely a simplification, but isn't immigration one tool to combat inflation?
