Was it obvious to me that what you said was a joke? Yes.

Was it obvious to me that this "joke" was actually meant to be biting social satire aimed at a bunch of people descended from colonist shitbags? No, and I doubt that was clear to anyone else, because racist jokes just fucking suck and are stupid; even if we take accept your explanation for the use of the joke at face value it requires a huge assumption about the demographics of people who post here being exclusively white/of European descent, and that's simply not true.

Maybe, instead of attempting to justify the use of a racist joke, it would be better to admit it was a joke made in poor taste and you regret it; no one would think less of you for doing that, and might even appreciate the acknowledgement--doubling-down on it just makes you look worse.

I mean, you know better the sort of people that come in your home and what they think of the kind of person you are.

But now I'm curious. It might depend a little on how it looks. Like, is it, I don't know, a hard swastika? Some of those Buddhist ones look pretty distinct, thin lines, little accents and all. How does it vibe with your overall decor? How much gothic typeset text do you have around the place?

Edit: Just did an image search for "navaho swastika blanket." Ooof. Definitely some hard swastikas there. Lots of red, black, black eagles. Bummer.

I suppose I should explain why I have this blanket. I don’t collect much of anything besides books, but I saw this blanket when my girlfriend’s family was clearing out the attic of their family home. It was Salvation Army bound, and I asked if I could take it so I could do a little research.

I used to sell Navajo blankets and jewelry on the edge of the rez many years ago, and worked with a Navajo lady named Miss Daisy who wove blankets with an old school loom. She fetched several hundred dollars (sometimes thousands) per blanket, and it helped put her grandkids through college. Pretty much everyone working there was Navajo or Hopi. It was a fun job, especially since everyone there liked to laugh and joke around (I love Native humor). Anyway, it led to an interest in Navajo and Puebloan craftsmanship. I don’t collect, but I like to read about it, and I’m always interested when something like this blanket comes my way.

I’m guessing this blanket was made for the tourist trade in the early 30s, possibly for the Fred Harvey company or something similar. Probably not worth a shitload. There are a couple of details that make me question its authenticity, and I’d eventually like to take it to a specialist. In the meantime, it’s draped over the couch in the living room.
