A lifetime ago, back when I taught all this shit, the one genre I'd steer classes away from was horror. I still think it's the most time-dependent genre, and I've never seen a horror short that works. Even if you can somehow rock up a concept that can stew and be felt in the gut within twenty minutes (I reckon that's the absolute minimum you'd need), you're still faced with including enough narrative to care for the subject.

Really interesting to me how people can have such diverse responses to the same material - I watched this one feeling nothing but boredom.

For me, it was wearing converse-type shoes while trying to get purchase on anything at all. They really know what fear is

You mean like the Dall e images that were making the rounds? How can you tell? I certainly don't want to spread misinformation like a common misinformation spreader. Should've figured when scouring the Internet for more information I couldn't find any.

I wanted to like Barbarian but ultimately found it kind of boring. First half was interesting and suspenseful but the backstory had my eyes rolling. Just didn't work for me. Justin Long had some funny moments.

The trailer for Smile makes it look absolutely terrible but it's receiving excellent marks. I'll wait for streaming.

Tonight at 10pm eastern Shudder is having a secret screening event on their live TV station. New Argento? V/H/S/99? Satan's Slaves: Communion??? The mind, she is boggled!

EDIT: just watched that trailer for Barbarian. Wow. I would've been hella pissed if I went into it expecting that. Makes it look like a Justin Long vehicle. Which maybe kinda it is? What a confusing movie that I did not enjoy! Golly.

I get it, but I found it to be a preposterous, tense, and hilarious good time…everything I want in a horror flick. Even a somewhat dumb role for Richard Brake still works for me.
