You might want to reread my original post.

My point was that The Darkness are lo.com.denom, cynical industry bullshit. Easily as bad as Steel Panther.
You clearly have not listened to enough Steel Panther...

When Permission To Land came out my roommate Ray and I were the twin lead guitarists in a band so anything with Thin Lizzy overtones was just fine by us. We saw The Darkness live on their first US tour and they rocked. Their Christmas video is still pretty funny and great. Permission To Land has bitchin' riffs galore but everything after that blows chunks. Today they're a weird little cul de sac in popular music that never spawned any imitators (in the US at least). Maybe that's why I still like that first album. You know, a little goes a long way.

I don't blame anyone for not liking The Darkness, as I didn't like them until the context changed. I think we all unconsciously decide what we love and hate based on other contextual factors, and if something that isn't intrinsically beautiful comes into our lives under the wrong circumstances then we are unlikely to appreciate its more superficial qualities. The Darkness are ridiculous, but so is the entire genre of music that they emulate, and I can't think of any reason to hate it now that both the original butt rock and the redux are in the rearview mirror. But I get it that there's also no reason for anyone to like them either, unless they had experiences with the music that made it palatable, as I have.

Now a band like Greta Van Fleet needs to fuck off and die because they are shitty at copying classic rock, and because they act like they aren't a cover band.

I've heard enough of it - I like the joke fine during interviews / promos etc (esp Lexxi), but the songs are mildly funny once. And while I get promotors (esp on the Euro-metal-mega-summer-festival circuit) like them, why would anyone chose to listen to them over Van Halen?

To clarify re: "fun" - totally fine as a reaction from the audience, nearly always lame if the performer is trying (forcing) to illict that reaction - I always found the Darkness especially cynical and almost condescending in that regard.
