Re: Holy Trinity of Heaviness-dome: Swans vs Neurosis vs Godflesh

I voted Swans b/c even though I like little of their early-mid 80's output, I love the My Father Will...-> To Be Kind run. Soundtracks For the Blind and Swans Are Dead are also terrific.

Neurosis I've not really listened to an album of theirs, but I saw them live and they were great! I loved the quiet/loud dynamics the songs had.

Godflesh I've never been able to get into, mostly b/c of the twisted monster vocals.
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

I'm into the 2010-present era of Swans (and Angels of Light) and have enjoyed them live. So I guess I'll vote Swans.
I think anyone who enjoys Streetcleaner and Pure owes the rest a listen. The pre-reunion records all have their own plus points, and I reckon Post-Self is worthy too.

The Angels of Light would be my favourite side-project of the three bands, for sure. Sorry Techno Animal. Sorry Greymachine.

I should have clarified. You know bands where you like them, but they just keep putting out the same sounding record so you feel like you already have enough of their catalog to scratch that itch? That's Godflesh for me. I could take those two albums, cut some tracks, and reduce it to a single length record and I'd be all good.

I'll skim the other pre-reunion records though and see,

That's really interesting, as I find the bulk of their pre-reunion records very different.

Okay, I stand corrected. I just listened to all of Songs of Love and Hate and enjoyed it. It's not night and day or anything, but it's different enough that I see what you mean.
