This song is fucking amazing.
Re: the rutabega
3Even in the honest-and-open title of this page it still feels weird to self-promote. But yeah here we are & the full album is available today if you feel like checking it out.

6Very well done! Still very much a Rutabega record but covers more ground than previous stuff (trying to avoid words like 'mature' though it probably applies). The last 2 tracks are probably my favorite. Great roomy drum sounds.

7i'll try not to embarrass the Garth on here, i'm sure i already have on the other socials. it's tough to find the balance between being spammy/salesy and making sure people are at least aware of something you poured your heart & soul & [way too much] time into. although it's not like we've been tinkering and tweaking mixes for 2 years, it just seemed like EVERYTHING took 10 times longer than it should have. i will say that i am really truly happy with how this turned out and i love all the work that G$ did. and the contributions from emily and some of our other friendos are really special to me.
>Melissa from Photo-Curio added vocals to the last track, "mulch," and god i love her voice so much.
>FM Maurice (hi Maurice!) was kind enough to let us incorporate his drone into "gone." thankfully Maurice had recorded his snwv set at the last Thundersnow we were able to play—Feb '20, before things in the world really went sideways. he had played right before us and we overlapped our sets by going into "gone" while he continued his last drone. it was really cool to be able to recreate that overlap on the record.
>i'm not sure if Carl is still on here, but the record was mastered & the lacquers were cut by the mighty Saff. Smashed Plastic is doing the vinyl pressing and even though we had some issues w/ the test presses, they have been great to work with so far. hoping they can turn these around before too long.
>Anne Hensley from Petrillo/ Future Living/ Weirder Wonderland wrote up the album bio that i've still yet to make it through w/out crying.
>and Jay's cover image... i think i dropped my phone when he first sent over the file. it just captures so much for me. if you didn't see, he ended up screen-printing some 18x24 versions (sans text) and he has those posted over on The Bird Machine site.
i'm really grateful to Comedy Minus One for putting this out. that was all worked out pre-pandemic so i would have understood if Jon was like, "yeaaaah, we should maybe rethink this considering you guys might not be able to play live much if at all for the foreseeable future..." Jon is the best. i know i don't need to tell any of you that. PLEASE BUY OUR RECORD SO THAT JON DOESN'T HATE US
>>>speaking of CMO, here is the link with all the release info. we sincerely appreciate the support we've received from the PRF community. i've said it before, but my musical life/ life in general was changed for the better from that first PRF event we played (the first Thundersnow in 2013). BRW and Michelle Spack were the first people we met when we pulled up to Terrace Bay, and i knew right away that we were in the right place.
and i agree about the drum sounds - listening to the test pressing on my decent stereo really felt like Garth was smashing away in the living room.
ok, will shut up now!
XO

thanks so much! those last 2 (and "barely") came together after we had finished tracking all the songs that we had already been playing live. "walkonahead" had been written in 2005(!) when my Grandpa was passing, but Garth and i decided kind of on a whim to see if we could find a new arrangement that felt right.penningtron wrote: Sun Oct 30, 2022 8:18 am Very well done! 93rd time is the charm w/ test pressings apparently. Finally approved and in the queue for pressing & printing and everything.
