Re: Current DIY projects you are working on ... or planning on.
41I think a reface YC is my next purchase, if I can find one used.
It's also the sort of thing that "Back In The Day...' Yamaha would never have got caught slipping on.Kniferide wrote: Thu Mar 24, 2022 4:04 pmWith one of these and the little red YC organ thing in a rack you are really close to the usefulness of a nord for a lot les money.

Certainly a bit of a bummer that they are taking their eye off of the ball these days.
500 Series (and to a lesser degree Eurorack) stuff is super hot right now.Kniferide wrote: Thu Mar 24, 2022 7:15 pm Rack mounted stuff isn't as in fashion across the board for synth stuff. They are more likely to make little cute desktop units with rubber feet that you can never really find a good place to set them down or keep them from falling off your desk. See basically every UA IO made in the last 7 years for example.
Not sure you could jam one of those Yamaha circuit boards into a Euro, but it would be cool to have a "Classic Electric Piano" and a little Draw bar style in a euro rack for sure. Even if it was really good digital sampled stuff. The size/patchability would be great.tommy wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 12:38 pm500 Series (and to a lesser degree Eurorack) stuff is super hot right now.Kniferide wrote: Thu Mar 24, 2022 7:15 pm Rack mounted stuff isn't as in fashion across the board for synth stuff. That is really cool. Like said above, you could have a really powerful set up making a few more modules like that. I really like the reface series. A bit of a contradiction: as a hack, I do not mind mini-keyboards yet those yamahas feel a little too pricey for a mini-keyboard so I won't get one.
Agreed! Though, I've just been jonesing for a plain old shortscale bass lately. I don't know how to play bass, but always wanted to dabble. I looked up those old Squier Music Master basses, and the prices were all over the place. Meh. I love that look though.
