So a quesadilla is a sandwich, but a hotdog is a taco.
Sandwich: an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.

on one hand a stuffed pita is considered a sandwich, but also still ONE piece of bread. Same with an open-faced sandwich.

I think the taco argument hinges a lot more on whether or not a tortilla is bread.

Cereal isn't a soup. A soup is cooked together, at least in part of its making. I guess you could argue that porridge is a soup.

A sandwich requires two or more slices of bread, with fillings. A hot dog is not a sandwich. A burger is not a sandwich (slices of bread =/= halved buns).

A cob is bigger, and can't be confused with any of the above.

You might also argue that oatmeal is a soup.

Oatmeal is a porridge (it’s just rolled oats plus hot water; I’d call it oat porridge), but not all porridge is oatmeal. My understanding is that porridge can be of grains other than oats.

Grits (common in the American south) are also a porridge (corn-based).
