I have a Valley People PR-10 with some Kepex and Gain Brain modules.
I would like to incorporate these into my patchbays.
They are configured, as they are commonly, with outputs on the top row and inputs on the bottom row with half normals where appropriate, such that the I/O has a useful default wiring.
If I wire up a Gain Brain, for example, with the output on the top row, the input on the bottom row, and the key input, I don't know, on the next point over on the bottom row then I have created an undesirable asymmetry in the patchbay layout.
Is anyone aware of a scheme that will allow me to use all of the I/O on the module (IN, OUT, KEY IN) without creating an odd asymmetry on the patchbay layout?
Re: Patchbay arrangement for outboard with key input
2I think you're stuck. Commit to the asymmetry and either stack the keys, or use the tops for something else that leaves you with odd connections. Just label everything right and maybe keep the odd stuff off to one side or something so it still seems kind of organized or semi-deliberate

I've never gotten too worked up about keeping top/outs bottom/in as bible law as long as things are labeled well enough to make sense to people
Re: Patchbay arrangement for outboard with key input
4Yeah I have key inputs for compressors and gates randomly stuck in available spaces. It's just bound to be different because there is no in/out so it's whatever is less confusing:
Two keys top and bottom to fill a column.
Or
Random stand alone key inputs with nothing above.
As mentioned if it's labeled it's fine. I've even committed the sin of moving things and not updating the label. I (almost) always remember, but no one else works in my place.

5I do top in and bottom out. Whoops. Time to flip my whole edac patch bay

7Bummer. But yeah, I guess you'll want to re-do it so it is correk.bikefvcker wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 9:23 pm I do top in and bottom out. Whoops. Time to flip my whole edac patch bay

Well it’s just for my outboard gear. Maybe I’ll fix it maybe i won’t. Who cares
Re: Patchbay arrangement for outboard with key input
10What if you got a separate (smaller) patch bay for ONLY the key inputs?
The key inputs are different in nature, and less numerous, than all the various ins/outs, and I'm similar to you, the asymmetry would make me nuts.
Maybe you just need to get a little "key input sidecar".
