I don't know where all this "red wave" hysteria came from...probably because in decades past when midterms rolled around typically everybody is ready to change their vote due to dissatisfaction. But the current entrenchment along party lines means we are stuck in a death spiral regardless of seemingly anything. There will have to be some kind of significant cultural thaw-out before we have something like swing voters again.

Something refreshing (even if it's something miniscule, I feel it's worth noting):

Seems like defeated republicans (with few exceptions... ahem Kari Lake) are in large part conceding and not whining about voter fraud. No "I just need you to find 11,000 votes". At least so far.

And I'm guessing I probably just jinxed it.

And a lot of those types lost pretty big. The ones who mostly stayed on economic issues did better.

Now let's hope for 2 years of modera.. erm.. less extreme Republicans and the MAGA turds imploding their own party.

Wait, was Kari Lake’s race called? I don’t think she’ll win, but I also didn’t think it was settled yet.

Edited to add: the AZ gov race hasn’t been called and really is neck and neck. Lake is nuts and evil, but there’s no sign she lost yet.

Apologies, my post was poorly worded.

She has pre-emptively whined about voter fraud.

I suspect the GOP is now going to take a couple half hearted steps towards the center. Not that their policy will get better, just less overt racism maybe.

This will be interesting because Trump seems to be unstoppably fixated on running again, which could make a fantastic shit show for all of them.

I also suspect the first two years of the Biden administration is about as progressive as it's going to get around here for some time. Basically I'm thinking centrists and lovers of the status quo are about to be a little happier.

Then again this shit is chaos so I could be wrong about all of that.

I have doubts.

I don't think we're going to see a change on the right until Trump is no longer a factor. Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, QAnon folks, and overt racists have always existed and they are everywhere in the USA, and not just the USA. But it's Trump that has enabled the crazies to be more outspoken.
