He totally loves Swervedriver, that's not crap.
Don't think his channel is really interesting but.. it's kinda ok. I think I've watched maybe 5 or 6 of his videos.
Seems like a decent bloke.

32I could never articulate what bothers me about him, but there it is. With that said, he's not really peddling any snake oil.Anthony Flack wrote: Fri Nov 11, 2022 3:01 am
He gives off self-help guru vibes but doesn't appear to be a force for evil.

33I suppose there's the Beato book, ear training etc., bur it all seems like reasonable tuition material.Krev wrote: Fri Nov 11, 2022 1:07 pm I could never articulate what bothers me about him, but there it is. With that said, he's not really peddling any snake oil.

Re: YouTube personality: Rick Beato
34He kind of takes an academic tone in explaining the construction of things that weren't made with an academic attitude. That can feel a little like the squares have been spying on the party, or that the secrets are being given to the normies. Of course I recognize that is an impulse in me to feel that way and I want to check my elitism.
Or maybe as someone who pours over records to decode these bits it can feel a little dorky to hear it out loud.

35So I guess the consensus is that the dude is alright. I grudgingly agree. Still irks me, though. I don't have anything substantial reason though. I just hate a lot of slick youtube. It irks me every time I'm looking up some specific guitar thing on youtube it always recommends one of his videos no matter how unrelated it might be. You like guitar? Good, here's the same 5 bland ass dudes. Oh the internet's infinite potential.
Speaking of those auto-recs, there's that other guy I dislike much more. The guy who's always making a dumb face in the thumbnail. Rhett Stull, that guy. I actually want to watch some of his videos based on topic, but I just can't. I hate clickbait thumbnails and that stupid face he makes. He also just has bland things to say and likes bland things.
So there. I'm a shallow bad man who just can't stomach nice-enough slick youtube guys who nonetheless seem to know plenty about stuff. My bad. Not a serious dislike.

36Rhett's fine, I don't have any problem with him or Beato. Totally agree with you about stupid thumbnail pix though, really a turn-off.
Re: YouTube personality: Rick Beato
37He seems genuinely excited about music and education so NC. But he's also genuinely excited about some of the worst, lamest music ever made, too. That and (,I suspect) because he made his bones in the corporate music machine, never, ever really criticizes the way the machine worked/works. He also loves dumb production tricks in awful songs far too much. His tastes in *everything* is one huge waffle.

38It's because of Rick Beato that I became aware of the music of Polyphia and I'll never forgive him for that.

40It's like the essence of two high school kids breaking up at a mall food court became a sentient guitar solo.
