2Curtis. No slight on Stevie.

3Wonder has some incredible stuff but also some very corny material. Mayfield always sounds great and is effortlessly cool so I'm going with him.

4Curtis May was badass.
We're headed for social anarchy when people start pissing on bookstores.

7A few years ago 'd have definitely said Stevie. Talking book, Innervisions and Songs in the Key...are absolutely stellar records. I've seen that Sesame Street clip a million times, for some reason a friend had a VHS copy of that performance that I dubbed and kept around in the 90's.
I didn't seriously listen as much to Curtis Mayfield for whatever reason until the last few years, but man, I feel like his brilliance is sometimes overlooked even with the respect he gets. Someone upthread said effortless, and that's a good description. His music just seemed to appear fully realized from the moment it came out of him. I've come to really, really love him lately.
If you haven't seen Curtis on OGWT, well, remedy that now.
I can't vote.

8I feel like the right answer might be Stevie but Curtis always meant more to me.

9Curtis Mayfield all day, every day. It's not even close.

10Yeah, and there's no "Contusion" fusion horseshit on the classic Curtis records. There are some serious highs spread throughout that huge Stevie period, but Curtis and Roots are pretty much flawless.penningtron wrote: Mon Dec 05, 2022 3:56 pm Wonder has some incredible stuff but also some very corny material.
