We watched Lena Wertmuller’s Swept Away last night. What a complicated and unsettling movie! The critics who argue that it’s basically a two-hour rape fantasy aren’t exactly wrong. They’re not exactly right, either.

I've finally gotten around to watch "Nope" - it's not as good as "Us" and particularly "Get Out" but I still enjoyed it a lot it's just felt a bit disjointed.

Amsterdam, the new David O. Russell film. Badly made, with an awful script. An absolute mess of a film.
Hard to imagine how someone could make something this bad with so much experience under their belt. He must be going through addiction or something.
What a waste of a cast. Avoid completely.

The only (and I mean only) good thing in it is Christian Bale's performance, but it's still absolutely not worth watching.

Muscle - low-budget British thriller. Fizzled out, but had some moments, and a real rarity these days in that it was well cast.

Beast.

The script is bad, but some of the shots are pretty.

The Apostle (1997). Robert Duvall's 'passion project'. Weirdly literary for a story someone would be desparate to film. It was OK, in spite of that.

So many films called "Beast" or "The Beast." I assume you refer to the new one with Idris Elba?

Anyway, The Beast, from 1988 is quite good. It's one of those films that I'm surprised has not been remade.



I guess it as also called "The Beast of War," but I have only ever known it as The Beast.

The Banshees of Inisherin. Best film I've seen in years. Wonderful.
