Well thats why this is so concerning. Most of the shit that gets posted here is just fringe weirdness. Worlds Smallest Violin is sitting right smack dab in the middle of the US top 40.

I told my children that the group and the song were banned in our house…. Then I had to explain what banning was, but finally just settled on cancelling them instead, which I’m assured would get the job done.

We're in the post-ironic era where everything shitty ips popular and everything popular is shitty, but like on purpose this time.

I posted this to the PRF Facebook group while the forum was down, but it really belongs here:

The pain starts with his overwrought string-popping at 0:15, but it bursts with fruit flavor at 0:56 with some insane warbling vocals that will have you begging him to stop. You will regret this request at 1:18 when he starts rapping. Do white guys ever NOT rap while playing acoustic guitars? Keep in mind that at this moment there are 8 more minutes left. There will be some acting, a punky bit, some pseudojamaican patois, and more acting and warbling. Oh and a "message" which is really just more narcissistic self-soothing. Good luck.

I couldn't make it through enough lyrics to find out if this is his way of processing some kind of abuse and/or mental illness, and if so I hope it helps him and anyone else who can relate, but a backstory doesn't change my genuine reaction to the style of creative expression that he utilizes. Just as there are awful people who make great music, there are perfectly innocent people who create egregious pap.

Edit: Wow, OK... I guess he is a tik tok/ instagram personality. I just went to one of his other videos and there's a whole story about how he staged his phone being stolen while streaming, to promote some recording he was about to release, and then did a week of pretending to be the thief while doing random chav shit, and then people freaked out when he got rough with his girlfriend but he kept up the act for a few more days before doing the big reveal. Apparently he lost lots of followers when they thought they were watching some douchebag - I mean they were - so he changed tactic but didn't tell the truth until all his accounts were about to be deleted. It was just a stunt but it's evidence that holmes is as lame and fake as his music.

They did warn us that we'd find the next generation's music to be shitty. Prior generations experienced this as being too loud, raw, confrontational or abrasive, but actually our music wasn't that different to our parents'. The twist is that we now get to suffer through music that is soft, gutless, pandering and twee, not too raw but cooked to mush.

If Kurt Cobain was alive today, the kids would ask him "why did you complain about selling out? Were the terms of your corporate sponsorship not to your liking? Surely the amount of brand engagement you generated with your content made it all worthwhile."
