don't you also have to service it every couple of years? i've considered getting an automatic but the cost+hassle of getting it looked over is putting me off. That plus quartz watches are more shockproof (precision doesn't hurt either) makes them look like a better pick.
Automatics do need a capacitor changed every now and again. Five years seems to be what's normally quoted, but I've had this one for at least 12 years without it being done and it keeps excellent time (for my needs - I'm not leading special ops missions or moonshots or anything that needs split second precision, but the only times I've had to change the time is when the clocks go back/forward.)

I got one too. Novelty factor wore off and the battery life SUCKS. Perhaps a software update might fix it
