It's actually an AAX 20" stage ride. The drummer from my other band's Sabian AA 21" bash ride is much lower in pitch but more eager to crash.losthighway wrote: Thu Jan 19, 2023 10:35 pm I have a Sabian AA ride (I might edit that after I'm out in the practice space). It can do quiet and it can rock but it stays articulate and doesn't slip into accidental crash overkill. If you lay into it it will crash but it doesn't take over the percussion section the way my Zildian Z custom crash can. It's classy if you want something versatile that will behave.
Re: Recommend me a ride cymbal
22For the discerning musician that does not enjoy decay.
I have owned one since 1995. It has been played poorly on many records and in front of many small audiences. Not a single person has told me it sounds like shit. Although it kind of does sound like shit.

23Hah! I owned a 22" Earth Ride for a few years. The bell was useful in the sludge band I played in briefly, but it otherwise sounded like a ski lift.

24Great description.
My ride of shame is a 24” Zildjian ping ride. I think it’s a bit over 4kg. It pings and pings and pings. This thread makes me wanna try it sometime but I just had abdominal surgery and it’s heavier than I’m supposed to lift right now.
Re: Recommend me a ride cymbal
25I'm into this digression of regretful cymbal purchases! (beyond starter cymbals or the splash cymbal you thought was cool at age 14)
Re: Recommend me a ride cymbal
26I had a 17 or 18” Zildjian “Impulse” crash back in ‘86 or ‘87 which was their version of a RUDE. It could get way too loud and I certainly would have played it too loud. A few years later I had a 14” RUDE crash which was really obnoxious. I may have had a 18-20” paiste color sound China at the same time.
Sometime in the mid 90s I smartened up and started getting lighter, larger K-style cymbals and figured out how to play hard without overplaying cymbals. I think in the last quarter century I’ve cracked two: one was a 22 sabian hh jazz ride which is now 21” but crack free. The other is a tiny edge crack on my 70s new beats, which I’m just monitoring for now.

30I don't think the occasional 'special effect' Wuhan is any worse than the Fugazi bell..
