Which is basically to say I've probably spent more time in the last couple years listening to Jenkins/Martin than any other drums, including perhaps my own.
Man, this dude is quite possibly the most punishing "drum guy" on Instagram. Blocked that shit from showing up in my feed IMMEDIATELY.

J-M's are cool, but weird. Very "tubby" (more so that Vistas, which are ALL ATTACK.) I called EKR on the phone and we had a nice chat about drums.

Yeah.. I've already done this within a 24 hr span. The videos are mildy entertaining, but I don't want 4 updates a day (both feed and stories) like this.

Most IG drummers and musicians, actually. Cool they can make (or at least supplement) a living doing this, but I could stand less from the firehose of content in general.

Album title, sorted.

Thank y’all for all of this! I am all mad at the world about things and stuff and then I remember that there are super cool and helpful people at this place on the internet (of all places) and it is good for my head. Great info and I’m definitely going to hit the blue beauty snare drum a bunch, and I’ll have the 3-plys with me anyway and am fast at head changes and such, so will experiment a little and see what’s what. Very excited!

We have had J-M drums in the studio for a couple of years now and I have a pretty good bead on what they sound like, related to other drums.

I fucking love them, for what that's worth. They are extremely lively, resonant drums, with a strong note and interesting overtones. Most drums, if you rap them with your knuckle go "donk," with a barely-discernable pitch. The J-M shells are almost marimba-like in their percussive note, and if you tune the heads sympathetically they are exceptionally round, sustainingly musical drums. The snare drums also have a strong shell tone and are loud and powerful sounding.

We have a bunch of drum kits here at the studio, all sound different and can be cool. If you want resonant, sustaining, booming drums, the J-M drums are the best of the bunch and I couldn't be happier that we have them here for sessions.

This makes them sound a LOT like the golden era of Camco drums. Sort of like Ludwig 3-ply drums that went to grad school, then.

I can attest to the power of the J-M snare. I ended up using the brass one I'd brought because it was great, familiar, and expeditious, and we had a lot to do in four days. If we'd had another day I would have definitely put a new head on the 6-1/2" and gotten to know it much better. It sounds incredible in studio B.

Yes.
I used to be pretty content with a 22" for "rock" stuff, but more and more, I'm realizing that I either want a 24" OR a 20" depending on the gig/group. I know the 22" can do "both"...but what's the fun in that?

I keep thinking about the J-M drums. I know how they sound and I have some qualms about their lack of versatility...but maybe to my above point, that's OK, and it's fine to have a "specialized" kit in that sense. I'm doing a session at EA next month and am trying to decide between my 3-ply Ludwigs or the aluminum INDe kit, but I might set up the J-M for a ride when the other dudes are tone-questing on day 1 and give 'em some more thought.
