I doubt you even need to go that far. Needing a compensated nut either means crooked frets/neck twist or very visible, odd fret wear (and you'd just replace the fret in that case). The fact that it's the first several frets makes me think it's not that. I think you can buy an already cut nut (make sure the string gauges suit you) and pop it in with one drop of super glue.

I had a highly revered tech fuck up a nut on my TB 1000S and I had to buy files and clean it up myself. It’s so depressing looking for people who know their shit and care as much as you do, and this applies not only to luthiers but to physicians and gutter repairfolks and everything in between. Literally 90% of the professional services fields deserves to have imposter syndrome.
