Yeah, I found Skinamarink to be alternately tedious and unnerving. I wondered how the director made the decisions of what shots to keep in and how many (another low angle shot of a doorway? Sure.) Some parts were kind of like walking through a dream though. Those parts were kinda eerie. Overall, I'm glad I saw it, though I don't need to see it again.

After months of trailer and review-avoidance last night I finally watched Men. Incredible experience that almost left me breathless from astonishment and revulsion. Felt like rewatching immediately. Loved the inclusion of Green Man and Sheela na gig symbolism in a horror context. More fearless directors like Garland. He's come such a long way since Sunshine.

Seeing Men in the theater was the perfect combination of unnerving and hilarious tones that doesn't hit very often

I love, love, love watching horror movies in the theater but I also kind of hate it because I'm persnickety and can't control the behavior of others, which often involves me getting anxious and/or petty. I think I would've been into watching the final act of Men in a group setting, but everyone gagging and yelling would make me anxious, and people laughing would make me angry. Skinamarink was kinda perfect in that the yelling which followed the scares were short and the only big laugh (kid's toy telephone) was warranted.

I would've lost my mind watching Mother! in the theater.

Good to know about IP...I felt the same way about Possessor, but IP looks tasty...I usually go to the theater early so none of the riff-raff you mentioned, but some movies definitely benefit from some rowdiness.

Has anyone ever seen The Lure? It's a Polish fantasy-horror-musical about mermaids from a few years back. Finally got a chance to watch it and though the cinematography, choreography, gore, and overall weirdness is confidently on display many sequences were super confusing and the music, save for in the title cards, left me cold. Would love to read different takes on it if there are any among this lot.
