This is terrible news. I haven't seen him in years but can immediately recall his kindness, his voice, his smile, his eyes and the way they would connect with you. I'm shocked and saddened.

I didn't know Steve, I maybe spoke to him in passing a couple times, and by the time the band I was in was playing in Chicago on the reg I think he was already out of the country but seeing Sweep was a really huge for me, the intensity, the way they seemingly changed the air in the room before they even started playing, all of this was crucial for me. I had seen bands before, I had even experienced that sort of intensity but Sweep was one of the first times I felt like I was seeing people who were close to my age, who weren't already established (at least in my mind) and they loomed large.

When it came time for our band to make a record we did it with Mike Lust becuz he had recorded Sto Cazzo! A lot of really important things in my life I can trace back to seeing Sweep and Steve's stare. RIP.
