1113Ah! Yes, I have used that exact thing a long time ago. Pretty much ideal. I need to find where those went. You might even be able to get something like that at a hardware store. Anything that has a display of samples for door/countertop/cabinet finishes usually has those sample "cards". About 3"x5". 1114The strap button on my Guild Starfire is behind the heal of the neck joint. This is wrong and should have never been done to any guitar. Does anyone know of a strap button thing that mounts inside the hollow so I can install it on the top horn? other idea is to just cut a curved piece of wood, put some glue on it and secure it to the end of the horn on the inside to give me something to drill into for a strap button.

1115Can anybody suggest good currently being produced alternatives to AKG C451 EB/C452? I'm looking for SDCs with brighter, more detailed sound for snare, OH, some acoustic instruments etc.
I was thinking about Audio-Technica 4051b (not sure how different it is from 4051a) or Josephson C42.

1116I have never actually used either, but I was on the hunt for an AKG 451 or an AT 4051 for quite a while. I believe they are supposed to be very similar. The first 4051 (or 'A') just had a low cut switch, the 'B' has switches for both low cut and pad. There was also a change to the capsule, just the housing I think. The 'A' had grill vents that run parallel to the body of the mic, the 'B' has vents that encircle the capsule. 1117No direct experience, but the Advanced Audio stuff is really popular around here and I have a few pals that love these guys:

Just glancing at the frequency response charts, it doesn't seem like these have quite as pronounced a presence peak (slopes off right around 10K, I think the 451 extends a little bit beyond that?), but in practice might do the thing? I've had a Shure SM81 pointed at my hi-hats on the rare occasion those get mic'd and it's always seemed appropriately hi-hat-y.

1119Oktava 012 are still my favorite go to SDC for literally everything. One of my fav tom mics, guitar, I've even used them on vocal. 1120While I would second the recommendation of Oktava MC/MK-012s just to have around, I wouldn't consider them as bright and detailed as 451s.
Why not just buy a current production C451 B? Yeah, they're not exactly the same as the older EBs, but neither is any alternative. 451s kind of have their own distinct thing going on in the top end.
