There were a couple of moments that were a little far-fetched, but the movie does a great job of giving the viewer the feeling of watching a biopic about an actual person. Conductors can be such shitheads.
Just caught this. Really superb. Very, very well made with really engaging camerawork and phenomenal performances all around. I think Blanchett should get an Oscar for it. I liked how the dialogue didn't try to simplify things for the viewer ("very inside baseball" as one review put it) and the sprinkling of horror and mystery elements throughout (plus some stuff I didn't catch) were used to good effect. I kind of expected more at the end, to be honest, but ultimately it was no big deal.
Worth seeing in the cinema/with a surround sound system for the music scenes alone.

It's Todd Field's first film in 16 years, for anyone unfamiliar.

Blanchett is obviously talented and it's certainly stylish, but not much of a story other than watching someone breathe their own farts. I think I've just met too many people like this (not composers, or even 'successful' people, but still).
The story's definitely underwhelming. I primarily thought it was very well executed (editing, camerawork, dialogue)

After first reading about it 20+ years ago I finally saw DEEP END and it was a great as I could possibly have hoped for. If you described all the individual bits it doesn't seem like it would be that great, but it all comes together in a really fantastic way.

Real long scene set to most of (the) Can's "Mother Sky", great to finally hear that in context!

Definitely gonna watch the other two films in the series asap!
We watched this the other day, too, and agree: fantastic movie. The Can sequence is a highlight.
