Nice. I'm very curious at what's involved in properly tensioning and "tuning" a ribbon. I've been looking at various ribbon mod options, stumbled onto this site which has a lot of stuff for Ribbon DIYing. https://geistnote.com/diy-products/ribbon-microphone/TylerDeadPine wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 12:56 pm yeah now that' I've built a ribbon mic 100 times over and gotten good results, I want to try this out, see where it stacks and then consider a ribbon replacement and/or motor. I have a bunch of transformers to try as well

142There's a promo you can use on top of this. With "March 15" as the promo applied, I just paid $51.51 for 2 of them total, after tax and shipping.Kniferide wrote: Wed Mar 15, 2023 1:22 pmJesus... that is so dumb. maybe they just made way too many and want to get rid of them. They are nothing amazing at all but I've been putting them up with other mics as a flavor. I bought 2 more cause its so fucking stupid @ $27 each.thecr4ne wrote: Wed Mar 15, 2023 11:42 am I regret to inform you that the Monoprice ribbon mic is now $27.99...not a typo

I don't need great mics, so if this is better than the few I have - not a hard bar to clear - I'll be super stoked for this.
Thanks all for the tip. That site kinda rules.
Re: Recommend a cheap ribbon mic
143Looks like they're sold out and showing up as discontinued - RIP cheapo ribbon!

First thing if you want to work on ribbon mics is you evaluate how happy you are in life. If you're married, get divorced - if you have kids, shuttle them off to military school or 'the camps'. Any of it will get in the way of the concentration and reduced air-velocity you will need in your work area to accomplish anything involving a ribbon that is repeatable and happiness inducing. Save up any crying you do in the mornings for your first, second and tenth attempt.
Re: Recommend a cheap ribbon mic
146Damn, I got a paypal receipt for 3 mics and a monoprice e-mail asking if I wanted to complete my order… looks like I’m about to do a dance with customer service

147The link works for me, but they're on ebay too. https://www.ebay.com/str/geistnote Prices are a little better on their own site.TylerDeadPine wrote: Fri Mar 17, 2023 10:53 am I get a server error on that link? Otherwise count me excited.

As far as happiness, I don't need to re-ribbon anything that bad. I'll send it to you to work on.

148Between me and all the dudes I work with we probably bought close to 20 of them between us. One dude bout 4, I bout 2, another bought at least 2 if not 4, and A dude that wasn't there said he was going to buy a bunch of them too. One dude bought 8 or 10 of the $15 Di boxes too. I have 2 of the Di boxes. they are pretty much identical to the old skool Rapco boxes.
