Our neighbors to the north, Phoenix just set a record for 19 consecutive days of temperatures over 110. Down here in Tucson it's almost as bad. We had an isolated monsoon storm a couple days ago but it's back up to 111 today.

Almost 40 Celsius degrees + riculously humid here in Balearic Islands.

I've experienced 45 in inland Spain but with no humidity and it was a lot better

It's pretty bad. Water has receded but man, quite a lot of destruction. I live on a small river in NW Vermont which ran very high and washed out some land but nothing near the house. Larger rivers just north and south of us flooded pretty badly and riverside towns in those areas were just inundated. The grocery store about 15-20 miles north had water up to the top of the windows. Montpelier has a great downtown, lots of small businesses, restaurants, bars/clubs - looked to be flooded 4-5 feet deep in places. A favorite music club was inundated. Not sure if they had time to get the gear out - water came pretty fast in most places.

There have been floods before (Hurricane Irene was bad) but this seems worse. Folks are independent and resilient, though, and they're getting it done.

We’ve been over 105F for ten days in a row, which is fine by me, so long as the humidity stays low. I mostly work outside, and the hardest part of the day for me is late-morning, when the humidity is still up. My years in Arizona have made me tolerant of this kind of heat. Austin feels like Tucson in the afternoon. We’re having our hottest July on record.

My main concern is wildfires. Things are getting parched and crispy. I’d really hate to see an outbreak like we had in 2011, but if things don’t take a turn, it’s bound to happen.

We have heat-related emergencies at work almost everyday. People go hiking in the afternoon with little or no water, and we end up having to call EMS. People don’t get it.

Friend in Montpelier said it was essentially wrecked. This is a man not at all disposed to negativity. I haven't asked him about it for a few days.

We lost power the other night, first time in a while. Last time it went off for four days. I bought a generator (regular gas) to run our fridge, then I went full-on and had the wiring etc. installed to run the whole house (sans AC) off it. That was all a few years ago. So I got to fire that up under duress for the first time. Worked great and I felt all too satisfied with myself.

The upside of all the rain in Chicago is that it is lush as fuck right now, esp for late July.
