302so I looked up what transformers I used:Dr Tony Balls wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 12:11 pm
That's helpful, especially in regard to the in/out transformers. Thanks! Can you send me the pdf? Curious about how they're doing the power supply....i've seen some with DC filaments vs AC, some regulated, others not.
the input transformer is a Sowter 9610 200/20k Microphone input 67£
the out put transformer Edcor XSM10K/600 25$
the power transformer is from Don Audio "Mila" transformer 75$ with a 48V secondary for the phantom power

here's the main thread on GroupDIY. everything fm NewYorkDave says might be of interest since he designed the preamp:

303Concur! Some take it better than others.mdc wrote: Sat May 20, 2023 7:51 am There are a lot of circuits where it’s hard to implement to get that dramatic effect you get on fuzz face variants. eg, big muffs /tbmkiii family. I guess it depends on how the transistors are biased in the first place?

304Here's a real sloppy quick one: https://youtube.com/shorts/sewBEzKKsfw?feature=share
THANKS. This will be helpful when I get around to it.
Also, none of these schematics show phantom power being provided....is that ever a thing or is a separate power supply generally used for that?
Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
305Phantom Power is a huge plus (speaking as someone who does not have any external phantom power supplies)

Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
306yeah, I would also say you would have to do that. I can't think of mic preamp that doesn't provide phantom power.BrendanK wrote: Mon May 22, 2023 10:02 am Phantom Power is a huge plus (speaking as someone who does not have any external phantom power supplies)
here's a schematic of how it's applied:
I think if you have a regulated 48V supply you can simply apply it through 2 6K8 resistors to the +/- input pins.
Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
307Co-signed. All mic preamps should have phantom power and a polarity (phase) switch.BrendanK wrote: Mon May 22, 2023 10:02 am Phantom Power is a huge plus (speaking as someone who does not have any external phantom power supplies)
Re: Balls Effects / Balls Amplification
308I really like having a -15/-20 db pad too if we're on to suggestions?

310Heck yeah on pads! It's like the cheapest thing to add and sooo often skipped.Garth wrote: Tue May 23, 2023 9:47 amI really like having a -15/-20 db pad too if we're on to suggestions?
