I have two decades of experience with beagles now (Sprocket is our second beagle) and have had at least two birds as pets at the same time for the entire time. I have failed at training the beagles to do just about anything, but they have never bothered any of my birds. They also never went after any wild birds, either.

Not an option, because

Most of them, yes. Particularly anything else with four legs and/or fur.
Thank you very much.
Sometimes I walk the tiny Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix doggie when I walk my brother's dog through the woods and she goes crazy every time we meet a deer. (The big boy does too, but he is on the leash). She also can't stand the cats. Even though every cat would completely destroy her if they stand up to her and wouldn't run away.
So I guess it all depends on the individual dog and how they are trained and brought up, not on the breed itself
Sorry for my shitty English

I'm down for a NC for the same reasons as previously stated. But they are not good for city dwellers.
I grew up in the suburbs and when our family beagle got off leash she ran away and ran and ran and would not stop.

There is a beagle in an apartment near me that bellows and won't stop. I can't imagine the neighbors are all that pleased.

On the upside, they make great singers. When I was a kid, we would call my mom at her job and sing"Mommy, mommmeee" and the beagle would join in. It amused the heck out of me as an 8-year-old.
old stuff

In Philly, they were largely pit bulls or pit mixes. I've seen social media posts from rural dog rescue organizations that had all sorts of bizarre critters, Great Pyrenees and other obscure pure breeds. Presumably these were released when a would-be breeder got arrested or gave up on their nasty little cottage industry.

All of this tracks. When I was little we had a beagle named Sloan. He barked and barked and barked. My uncle took him bird hunting once, and he never returned. My uncle said that he took off after a deer. I believe him now, but I suspected for a while that he may have been "lost" on purpose because he drove the neighborhood crazy with his barking.
