Pere Ubu vs. Mission Of Burma? Jeez, that's like trying to choose between my mom and ... my mom.

Both bands still mean a great deal to me but I have to give Ubu the nod for sheer weirdness and Final Solution and The Modern Dance and Peter Laughner (and Rocket From The Tombs) and because David Thomas wrote the words to Sonic Reducer. Their most recent live album By Order Of Mayor Pawlicki (2020) is absolutely killer.

It's hard for me to be objective here. Modern Dance, Dub Housing, and later Raygun Suitcase are major factors in my understanding of music. Burma did great stuff, and if I'd heard them at the same formative period who knows. Discovering Ubu, Fall, krautrock and Wipers in the 2000s changed how I thought about music, made me into an active listener, and I just didn't have that moment with MoB.

MoB by the mere fact that their reunion releases are just as consistently great as their early work. KInda unprecedented.
