Beyerdynamic M160 - good for acoustic instruments you are trying to minimize room sounds on? Other ideas?

I’m in a situation where I’m trying to overdub a sort of “string section” in parts and my usual Audio Technicas are pulling in too much of the room relative to the volume of instrument. Those mics usually sound good on acoustic but it’s different when you’ve got like six nonstandard parts coming from a small bodied acoustic. It compounds and I want the sound to be a little more direct.

I don’t really want them to be featured that wide in the mix, so they’re all coming out to one channel of the board I monitor with. Maybe spreading them out a little bit will help too, but I’m manipulating the sound further by reamping through an old tube amp for a Strawberry Fields-esque rubbery orchestra thing. So there’s stuff happening downstream from the initial capture that I think can be solved earlier with a different mic

I wouldn’t normally buy a mic for this sort of thing but the M160 seems pretty versatile.

A free app for iphone for listening to and sequencing downloaded music files.

Not like spoitfy or imusic, but for stuff I make and upload. I can listen to the files individually no problem, but I want to be able to put them in sequence and listen to them like a playlist or an album. Currently I just have these files in my google drive app or saved as 'files' on my phone. Looking for an app that I can drop them into.

Thanks!

I just ordered one for $589? I’ve only seen them around for $700+ new. Just a heads up if anyone was looking.
I was prf peer pressured (perf-pressured?) into buying an M160 recently and I can say it really, really, really does sound excellent on electric guitar amps. zero regerts.

That’s great. After delving into its histories and uses that mic has been so built up in my mind that I’m either going to love it or hate it. Hopefully I can keep it as I need to do a bunch of selling and reshuffling to make the purchase work, but I’m excited to give it a try

I just use iTunes playlists for this. I know lots of folks don't care for it, but I've not updated it for a decade, and it's pretty easy to manage from my desktop, and just sync the playlists to my phone. I don't think you can re-order them on the fly, but it takes care of everything else for me.

Thank you both for the recommendations. I used to use itunes, not sure if I still have it on an old laptop. I just downloaded fubar2000 but I'm running into the same problem as with imusic; it wants me to connect to a desktop or laptop and upload a music library. I never plug my phone into a computer, my macbook is old and there's all sorts of wierd syncing that goes on if I try to pair it with a phone. I already have the files on my phone and I'm just trying to open them in a program that will allow me to listen to them in sequence rather than one at a time.
