These are your examples? I just re-listened to both and I double down on what I said. It should be noted that I came to this band in my 40s after already liking RFTC and Hot Snakes. Guessing it needed to be in my veins two decades earlier.Pembs wrote: Wed Mar 01, 2023 4:53 pmAgreed re the Sultans, but Jehu? No hooks? Super Unison? Bullet Train to Vegas?tommy wrote: Wed Mar 01, 2023 9:23 am My ordering no one else will agree with:
1) Hot Snakes
2) RFTC
decent
Night Marchers (Allez has some riffs!)
the rest
Jehu (no hooks, sounds like generic noise rock)
Pitchfork (not bad, kinda interesting)
Sultans (yawwwwwwwwwn)
Plosivs (I fucking hate this singer so much)
Re: Rank the Bands of John Reis
22Jehu (formative), Hot Snakes (objectively whips hardest). Rest I could take or leave, significant WF for RFTC because playing in that band seems like it'd be a blast.
Edited to add: was pretty disappointed by PLOSIVS, a rare example of a band I was super excited about being significantly weaker than the sum of its parts.

24Jehu and Hot Snakes are a no brainer, but RFTC and Night Marchers are great bands as well (and Jehu and Hot Snakes are also pretty close to being the same band.)

25Jehu is my favorite. I really don't care that much for Hot Snakes save for a few songs, but maybe they'd click more if I'd seen em live.
I find myself listening to Night Marchers' Allez Allez more than anything else he's been on.
