I've now listened to it six times (after never hearing it before) and I think the above is accurate; "wholly predictable" in that a collaboration between these two artists was guaranteed to yield moments of ridiculousness like this:
The Classical wrote: Hetfield's tortured and goofy "smallll TA-WOUND grrrrllll"s.
The Classical wrote: The worst singer and the worst drummer soloing together!
I'm not going to say this album is a masterpiece, but I'm glad it exists. NC

this is off topic but i'm not gonna make a new thread for this, i have somewhat of a sense of shame

you might have noticed, metallica have a new album out. it's 77 minutes of monotony and boomer self-indulgence, as you'd expect from 2023 tallica.

well, i couldn't help myself and edited the whole thing down to 46 minutes, which i guess would make it their shortest album. So yeah, give it a listen if you're secretly into this kind of thing, don't worry it won't be as embarrassing as it was making it.

outtakes https://mega.nz/file/uSxnjSjB#Q1-djcNYC ... 1eOx9DZZCs (everything i cut, minus the song Screaming Suicide which i removed completely)

back on topic, i had to search youtube for edits of LULU "without Lou Reed" and wouldn't you know it, there's a bunch of them

My hot take is that lou Reed is usually the weakest member of whatever he is in, but an amazing band leader. Metallica is general not good these day, but having the two of them is the best work either of them ever did. Two negatives equal a positive.

Also right after this lou Reed became a bronie then immediately died so that’s funny

My expectations were off. I love the album.

I can totally get why people either hate/don't like the album or just think something along the lines of: "Master of Puppets and Transformer exist. There are so many other great albums out there, so why bother listening to an album that is not as good?" The most surprising thing about my experience is that the album didn’t grow on me. Even at 86 minutes, it wasn’t necessary. Though I do wish that Lou did more singing with the band (like in “Iced Honey”) and his vocals are definitely jarring (especially in songs such as “Pumping Blood”), I didn’t seem to bother me much if at all. For some weird reason, Lulu made sense to me upon the first listen. Lulu reminds me a lot of Sonic Youth’s late 1990s-early 2000s albums, so those albums prepped me for Lulu ages ago.

Actually, Lulu reminds me more of Complete. “The View” is their “Hoogie Boogie Land”. Both songs are completely hilarious at first, but once I realized that “The View” is filled with taco riffs is when I started to completely enjoy the song with a Hey Sparky-HEY SPAAAARKY!-level grin on my face.

Not crap.
