I haven’t read the manual or anything, but I played it a bunch last night with an EGC guitar with flatwounds and a 15 watt 50s Gibson.
To me, it’s closest in feel to a Lovetone Ringstinger I had for a while before I had to sell when prices got too high. There’s no ring mod on the Shields Blender obv, but it’s a very interactive pedal that does all sorts of crazy shit, and the fuzz is such that it feels like you can tune it with the tone knob. It’s not subtle, and in some ways the pedal obliterates the relationship between the guitar and the amp. Dialing in clean sounds is cool, but you have to goose the volume when you do that to make it sound good. The sag control kind of makes the pedal, but I couldn’t imagine any one section of this pedal without the others. The expansion switch kind of goes into a rhythm/lead sort of change, but the eq differences can be a little extreme.
If I have one complaint, it’s that I wish the fuzz had a wider range down as you’re kind of starting on 10. If I had two complaints, the octave down switch really needs a master volume, but I understand why its not there - it’s the You Made Me Realise switch.
All the gold rush stuff surrounding it seems to happen any time Kevin Shields has done anything post-2000s, so I’m not really going to get into it in this post. It’s a very cool pedal.
