Tidied up our practice space and grabbed a quick photo of my kit.

I bought these maybe 15 or 16 years ago somewhere north of SF, I think San Rafael? Forum legend benadrian drove me up to get them. I think I paid about $400 for the kit - early 60s round badge gretsch stripped and refinished in brown stain.
I have no memory of this, but always happy to help when I can!
Just move to L.A. already.

They were in storage for the better part of a decade while I lived in Chicago, but when I moved to Toronto about 5 years ago I got them fixed up a bit and recovered in this lovely tangerine sparkle.

They sound fantastic, and it’s nice having a “player grade” vintage kit that I’m not too fussed about beating up. I’ve been playing a lot of drums since I moved here and they’ve been such a joy to use.

Snare is a 90s square badge gretsch that came with a kit I had years before that and (regrettably) sold to the drummer internet band at the time. He still has them at least.
Well goddamn. This is one of my dream kits. What are the sizes?

Do the K-Brakes work for the terrible "toothpick legs on an orange" Gretsch spurs? If so, I'm buying four of them today.

Do modern heads fit on that kit?

Keller maple shells I bought from a guy on Reverb in 2020 (he stained them). 12/14/18. I installed the ride arm (grew to love those things) I think a 20" kick would make more sense for me, but it's currently hard to justify the upgrade.

I don't use that C&C 'Black Beauty' as much anymore, I prefer the 14x5.5 Supralite.

ah fuggit.. here's a clip I recently recorded to exchange ideas with an old friend with modern prog leanings, hence me triggering the damn kick:

Yep, the k-brakes 100% work on the old toothpick spurs. The collar is too wide to actually clamp around the spur so they aren't attached tightly (would be an easy fix with a 3d printer and some glue I imagine), but in practice that hasn't been an issue. I don't have any other clamps or spikes or spurs on my kick and it's rock solid on any carpeted surface.

I haven't tried the attachments for slick surfaces but I'm definitely ordering a set as they would've saved me running to the hardware store to buy a $20 piece of carpet offcut on more than one occasion this past year.

The guy that recut the edges and rewrapped the drums did the 'dw notch' thing on the toms so modern heads fit well. The kick works better with an oversized head though a modern one will go on with some coaxing.
