13I wonder what the results would be if REM dismembered after Document or at least after Automatic for the people
Sorry for my shitty English
Re: R.E.M. vs. The Smiths … piece by piece
14Oh if they'd broken up before Green I'm sure people in hardcore bands would have gotten WAY into REM at some point.boilermaker wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 3:54 pm I wonder what the results would be if REM dismembered after Document or at least after Automatic for the people

15Probably a lot of sadness over the dismemberment of REM.boilermaker wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 3:54 pm I wonder what the results would be if REM dismembered after Document or at least after Automatic for the people
I mean, I get that one would prefer the earlier stuff, but to cut the band into pieces over it?

Sorry, FM boilermaker.
If they disbanded in the early '90s, they'd still have the same number of great albums. After that, New Adventures is closest to being great, but not quite there.

Re: R.E.M. vs. The Smiths … piece by piece
17I think an REM that disbanded before "Stand", "Radio Song", "Shiny Happy People", and "Everybody Hurts" would have had more of a cult band mystique and the ironic/humorous way those songs are dropped in TV/movies would have never happened and they'd likely be cooler w/ more people in hardcore bands.
But there's a lot of great material on those records, and many that came after that we would have never gotten.

18I neglected to vote bass player, so I will go with Mills. He was the best part of REM.
