Re: Best Food In Chicago
32Veggie House in Chinatown. It's on the east end of the Mall. At this point I'd guess I've had maybe 65% of the menu offerings and everything is uniformly excellent, and different in terms of sauce, spice (or not), presentation. No meat products of any kind, not even oyster sauce, and you can get totally Vegan if you need to. My step daughter is extremely allergic to shellfish and she can eat here with absolutely no worries of cross contamination sending her to the hospital. It's super consistent, the place is clean always, great portion sizes (not too huge but you'll likely save back a little) and the staff is on the ball. I've been to many many places in Chinatown, but this one is the king for me. If you drive down there, park in the Chinatown lot on Wentworth. Veggie House validates and that makes parking $2 for 2 hours and ain't no way you'll find street parking in that neighborhood for that cheap. It's a big deal for those of us coming from out of town.

33it's been a while, and don't think L would be down, but with a few slices of baguette.....jeff fox wrote: Wed Apr 12, 2023 4:15 pmMake it at home. You can get beef marrow bones at most butcher shops. Salt and pepper, put them under the broiler (marrow side up) till they're nice and brown. Spread it on some good crusty toasted bread.rsmurphy wrote: Wed Apr 12, 2023 10:29 am I would like to try bone marrow for the first time. I presume the best way to consume it would to be seated at a restaurant, but does it travel well? Any decent recommendations? Please and thank you.

34Tell Ms L that I'll bring the bone marrow while she provides the Cocteau Twins playlist.PASTA wrote: Fri May 05, 2023 8:27 am it's been a while, and don't think L would be down, but with a few slices of baguette.....

35Veggie House is excellent! It's our go-to in Chinatown as well.djimbe wrote: Thu May 04, 2023 6:33 am Veggie House in Chinatown. It's on the east end of the Mall. We just tried Pick Me Up Cafe in Andersonville... big menu, lots of vegan/veg options, and the portions are huge. The BBQ seitan sandwich was incredible and the breakfast scrambles were also delicious. I definitely see this becoming our regular breakfast spot.

36Had a burger from The Burger Point in the South Loop about a couple blocks north of Reggie's. Really good! This is the single with homemade tater chips and french dip, double slices of American on a potato roll. Sweet potato fries for the W. Even with the crunch of the chips it all just melted on the tongue. Delicious. Would go again. Black-owned if one is looking to support.

37I had a lights out lunch from Ragadan recently. They opened in Uptown this year, billed as a "falafel shoppe" that features Jordanian food, crazy milkshakes, and classic American burgers. Honestly, something for everybody. The Oklahoma burger and baklava shake leapt from the menu like a stoner daydream. Salted caramel and seared onions lingered on my palate for hours. Next time, I'll pay my respects to their traditional fare, like the falafel or chicken. https://ragadan.com/

38My wife and I had Avec a week or so ago and it was GREAT. Pricey but fully worth it.
We got the skirt steak and some roasted carrots. Excellent.

39The bacon wrapped chorizo stuffed dates w/ sauce is probably my favorite thing I've ever eaten at a restaurant.Ike wrote: Thu Jun 22, 2023 12:46 pm My wife and I had Avec a week or so ago and it was GREAT. Pricey but fully worth it.

J got a cook book that one of the chef's put out and we made them at some point during the pandemic and it was pretty damn spot on.
