Inspired by the Angry Samoans vs Misfits thread wherein someone wrote that the Misfits are "Kiss level dumb."

I know the thread title reads like a 1980s 6th grade comprehension test, to make it easy.

I want to understand.

I think the main ingredient for “Kiss level dumb” is an inflated sense of self-importance while doing something entertaining but unremarkable.

How about The Mentors? They were dumb and sounded like Kiss.

Mötley Crüe spinning a drum kit above the audience? Like, who cares.

To me, this means “smart enough to know your material is ridiculous” but “not smart enough to transcend it or to make fun of it.” That would encompass both Kiss and The Misfits.

I once read a quote from a Foghat guy about “Slow Ride,” which had a brief resurgence because of Dazed and Confused. He said something like, “Young people think that song is about driving. But it’s actually about sex!”

Literally NOBODY thinks that “Slow Ride” is about driving.

Foghat guy wasn’t Kiss dumb. He was just dumb-dumb.

Has someone defended it by saying "you just don't like fun"?

Does it have clowns, or persons who could readily be mistaken for clowns?

Between 1970 and 1990, could you buy a lunchbox decorated with its trademarked imagery?
