I feel like it's inevitable that I will also end up with the SY-200 just so I can save presets of the sounds I use without having to dick with the knobs. It's impossible to get the tone/depth ones back to exactly to where they were before.
FWIW there are a lot of good bass sounds that are not bass pads . . . the Hammond footpedals one I like is just an organ patch with the tone/depth knobs mostly to the left. Ridiculous low end, I ended up replacing the speaker in my cab so I wouldn't blow it.
Re: For Want of Low End
32Even though I briefly dedicated my life to playing bass in a live band... I have almost no clue about bass tone.
However, I would find videos about "My rig" by the guy from Russian Circles as a starting point to the OP who was talking about splitting his signal and using various pedals. There's also a good video somewhere where Kurt Ballou describes how he records bass that sounds more full by using a DI and flipping the phase on one of the split signals.
I guess another useful tool could be to record bass tones into your DAW and hard-pan them left and right with two different amp setups... Find how you want it to sound and then recreate that in a live situation. I guess the theory there is, you're isolating tones so you can more clearly get an idea of how it might sound. Kinda like A/B'ing your tones. I dunno...

33For what it’s worth the Celestion G12-100 is a fantastic high wattage speaker with great lows that doesn’t get enough love.

34In case anyone is still interested in something like this pickup setup, look up Submarine Pickups (https://www.submarinepickup.com).Garth wrote: Tue Jun 13, 2023 12:04 pmWell sure, but for the discussion felt it was worth sharing what was known.GuyLaCroix wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 12:31 pm This looks awesome, but I'm not about to route out my EGC.
I think their original version was actually a small separate pickup w/ separate output jack that just went under the low E and A strings and adhered to the body/pickguard w/double-sided tape or whatever so that's what I was expecting to share. It was a lot less techno looking too. It'd been a couple years since I looked at this as we're pretty well good w/ the OC-3.

Re: For Want of Low End
36Putting the rig through Proper Amps at a practice space was a hoot. That synth pedal tracks well on quite a few settings. Running it through a bass amp with serious wattage produced a pleasant grind that paired well with a high headroom Fender guitar amp.

37First show out last night, sounded awesome. Thanks again to everyone for helping me find the low end
